On the AI side, ChatGPT is handling 2.5 billion prompts a day, and OpenAI is set to drop GPT-5 in early August with three versions and some wild new features. Buckle up.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Gold medal drama with an AI plan
Both OpenAI and Google DeepMind built experimental models that matched top human contestants at one of the world’s toughest math competitions. OpenAI’s model tackled the full exam under the same conditions as real participants (two 4.5-hour tests, no tools, no internet) and nailed 5 out of 6 problems, good enough for a gold medal. It wasn’t part of the IMO officially, but its answers were graded by former medalists. DeepMind, on the other hand, worked directly with IMO organizers and hit the same 35/42 score, but with one big upgrade: it solved everything in natural language, no expert translation or Lean code needed this time. This puts AI one step closer to doing actual math research, not just acing tests. Both teams used multi-step reasoning, rigorous proofs, and no human help during problem-solving. The takeaway? AI is now creeping into creative reasoning territory, and faster than most experts predicted. Get ready for a future where math PhDs might be tagging in AI for help on open problems.
Trump just unveiled America’s AI Action Plan, a 28-page blueprint aimed at turning the U.S. into a global AI powerhouse. The plan pushes for rapid AI adoption across sectors including the military, slashes state and federal regulations that could slow down innovation, and hints at tighter export controls to keep U.S. tech out of foreign hands. It also calls for upskilling workers and urges developers to build “objective” systems free from ideological bias. The administration sees AI as “an industrial revolution, an information revolution, and a renaissance all at once.” Critics, however, say it’s a Big Tech free-for-all, with minimal guardrails and maximum corporate gain.
Netflix just revealed it used generative AI to create a building collapse scene in its sci-fi series The Eternaut, marking a first for its original content. Co-CEO Ted Sarandos said the scene was completed 10 times faster and at a much lower cost than traditional VFX. Netflix is also integrating AI into its search and advertising features to boost efficiency and creativity across the platform.
