All eyes on Apple Intelligence

The time has come for Apple to share its upcoming plans and exciting updates, especially in the AI field, expected to roll out this fall.

The standout moment of the Worldwide Developers Conference was Apple's collaboration with OpenAI to integrate AI into its devices, known as Apple Intelligence.

Over the next few months, Apple Intelligence will revolutionize our iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices, enabling them to comprehend languages, generate images, and swiftly respond to our needs, all seamlessly integrated across the Apple ecosystem.

Here's what caught our eyes and ears.

• AI images will offer a fresh experience for sketching, illustrating, and animating images throughout the operating system.

• Image playground will let us choose from a range of concepts and receive a preview of the generated image accompanied by a dedicated app for further explorations.

• Image Wand will turn sketches in the Notes app into polished images

• An AI cleanup tool will identify and remove unwanted objects in photos and be capable of pinpointing specific moments in photos or videos using natural language phrases.

• A new cleanup tool will identify distracting objects in the background of photos, allowing us to seamlessly remove them. Additionally, searching for photos and videos is now much more convenient, as we can use natural language phrases to pinpoint specific moments within a video clip, all thanks to AI.

• Writing tools will be able to summarize, rewrite and proofread text with tools to rewrite the text in several available styles.

• Notifications will be reorganized into prioritized alerts and reduced interruptions.

• Apple Intelligence can also take various actions for us like asking to send a podcast, or a file or to show only pictures of particular people in the device’s gallery.

• We’ll be able to create Genmoji right from the keyboard.

• We'll see a more natural Siri soon! It'll chat, remember context, and even answer follow-up questions within the system.

Also, Apple pointed out the increased privacy with AI. They said Apple Intelligence would protect user privacy by handling data on the device when possible. It will only send small bits of relevant data to secure servers when needed for more computing power. Plus, all information will be encrypted and won't be accessible to anyone else, not even Apple.

To add some spice, just hours after Apple's partnership with OpenAI was announced, Elon Musk stated that he would ban all Apple devices from his companies if they incorporated the technology into their operating systems.

The market responded too, with Apple shares surging, surpassing both Nvidia and Microsoft and reaching the first position on the leaderboard with a $3.29 trillion market cap at the time of writing.

All in all, Apple's entry into the game will deliver a more intuitive, intelligent, and secure experience for all its users, as devices evolve into personal assistants powered by AI.

• OpenAI welcomes two new executives: Kevin Weil, a former Facebook product veteran, as Chief Product Officer, and Sarah Friar, the former CEO of Nextdoor, as Chief Financial Officer.

• MoonPay and PayPal are teaming up to offer cryptocurrency services to users in EU member states and the UK. Now, users can use their PayPal accounts to buy cryptocurrencies.

• Layer3 has secured $21 million in total funding in a round led by ParaFi and Greenfield. The company plans to launch the L3 token later this year, alongside an AI-enabled protocol designed to optimize distribution strategies.

• Solana Labs has introduced Bond, a platform tailored for global brands seeking to enhance customer engagement. Leveraging blockchain technology, Bond facilitates the creation of personalized, transparent, and engaging digital experiences.

• FriendTech is ending its partnership with Base and will move to a new blockchain called Friendchain, developed with Conduit.

• The Polygon Community Treasury will distribute 35 million MATIC through its grants program to support the most talented builders across the Polygon and Ethereum ecosystems.

• Kling is the latest strong rival to OpenAI’s Sora. Developed by Kuaishou, the Chinese tech company, it can produce 1080p videos up to 2 minutes long at 30 frames per second. Currently, it is available in private beta and accessible only within China.

• Uniswap Labs acquired Crypto: The Game to continue developing the upcoming third season and further enhance the on-chain experience for its community.

• Elon Musk opted to withdraw the lawsuit against OpenAI and Sam Altman just one day before the scheduled hearing, without any explanation offered by Musk's legal team.
